I have few questions which is not related to citizenship processing.
1. After becoming citizen of USA, what happens to Indian passport?
2. If I want to go back to India for good after citizenship, how long once I should visit USA?
3. If I want to visit or work in India, do I have to have indian visting visa or working visa?
4. How to apply for working visa? Is it easy to get working visa? As like here a company should sponser a working visa in India?
Please answer my questions.

All these questions have been discussed on this board, some recently .. please skim through and read the past posts.

1. Invalid by default (under current Indian law)
2. There are no residency requirements for USC's. Pick any country that will keep you.
3. If you are a desi then PIO/OIC is the best way.
4. You can get a VV or a WV (sponsored) . But why do you want that when you can get Permanant Residency?

I would like to go back to india, and want to come back after few years. So I want to know whether I can work in india with no problem.

You can leave the country and take up residence in another after CZ. 3 million Americans live outside America!

PS: Why do you prefer a visa over a PIO Card ?

You dont need to apply for VISA, apply for PIO card or get dual citizenship (when available)
 
Thanks for all your advice. I will apply for PIO card. I heard from one of my friend that if I apply for PIO card then I can work in india with no problem. So I will apply for PIO card.
Can any one tell me what are all the benefits I get if I have PIO card. Is it is easy to get the card. Once in how long the card expires. Is PIO card is like green card here?

PIO card and employment

I think even with PIO card, you are not authorized to work in India. I browsed thro' PIO card benefits and they never mentioned that you can work in india using it. People say that PIO card is like getting green card in US, but I am not sure about that. My understanding is, you can visit India and have properties in your name. If you have dual citizenship, it is a different story, and you can work with out any problem.

You may want to enquire more about working in India with PIO. Let us know your findings so that it will be benefitial to all.

There it says
The benefits envisaged under the Scheme include:

v No requirement of visa to visit India when PIO card is carried along with the national passport;
v No requirement of a ‘Student’ Visa for undertaking studies in India and ‘Employment’ visa for taking up employment in India. However, PIO cardholders would be required to fulfill other pre-requisite conditions and formalities in connection with their studies/employment as prescribed by concerned authorities from time to time.
v No requirement to register with the Foreigners Registration Officer if continuous stay on a single visit does not exceed 180 days. If continuous stay exceeds 180 days, then registration is required to be done within a period of 30 days of the expiry of 180 days with the concerned Foreigners Regional Registration Officer / Foreigners Registration Officer.
v Prior permission of the Government of India is required by the PIO Card holders for undertaking mountaineering expeditions, missionary activities, research work and visit to the restricted/protected area.
v Parity with Non-Resident Indians (NRI) in respect of facilities available to the latter in economic, financial, educational fields etc. except in matters relating to the acquisition of agricultural/plantation properties. PIOs would be eligible for benefits as available to NRIs from time to time.
v PIO card does not allow parity with NRIs in the sphere of political rights.
v Separate counters for immigration would be provided to PIO Card holders at all International Airports in India.




After reading that site I thought I can work,study and visit india with no problem. What do you all think?
 
I have just called the indian embassy.
The number 212-774-0666 which rahul mentioned in some posting.

I called that number and a female picked up, I asked her whether I can work with PIO card. She said I can work, visit and study in India with PIO card.

So I believe we can work with PIO card.

Nope. You can work in India with a PIO. Can buy property (except agricultural land). Cant vote,stand for public office, take Govt jobs though.

PIO is a very attractive alternative for Indian born US Citizens

What do they mean by 'other pre-requisite conditions and formalities'? I know there should be a catch somewhere.
 
one more thing

once you get your passport

be sure and put that citizenship certificate in a safe place under lock and key

getting another passport is WAY EASIER then getting another certificate

also don't forget to call social security and let them know you just became citizen.

also if you want to vote now would be a good time to register

you can still vote even while oversease. Please take advantage of that

we need more citizens to exercise their right to vote.
