After citizenship: don't forget

a couple of things for all you new citizens

once you get your citizenship certificate you need to be sure and call social security and let them know you became a new citizen. They need to know that info for their records that way there will be no problems when you turn 65 and try to sign up for medicare or benefits.

also even if you don't ever plan to leave this wonderful country  ever again it is still a good idea to get a us passport anyway. once you get it put that citizenship certificate away under lock and key. It is way easier to get a new passport if you lose it than a new certificate.

another thing I would like to mention is voting. I would like to encourage all of you new citizens to register to vote and vote in every election no matter how mundane it may be. We need more citizens to vote. But also you recent immigrants now have a voice that your non-citizen counterparts do not. Make your voice heard that we need immigration reform and uscis needs to do a better job. Also we need to have more visa numbers to become available.

good luck to you all and best wishes

It takes 3 working days to issue an expedited passport compared to almost a year to get an I-90 replaced (Green Card) in some districts

Yeah its a breeze to work with the State Department. Do you how useful their Passport hotline is ? The CSR's as so friendly is amazing! Maybe Colin Powell could
head CIS for a few years....
