Hi Samershahin, USD19000 is for one person or family?? If we can show them official bank statement, do we still need to get sponsor letter? thank you.

Hi I usually prefer not to ask the embassy in details for family, since i am not married, planning to file as single, but during my email context i explained i was single, as well i remember some one posted the link of regulations for Affidavit of support, unless you are in US Military or serving there, you have to provide a higher amount in bank statement (higher than 14,000 some one said 30,000 as well for a family of 2), but as said, i am applying as a single/ not married, please check the exact reply i got from Abu Dhabi Embassy:

Sir, you can bring an official bank statement showing at least 19,000 USD in savings – using the current exchange rate. Or, you can provide an affidavit of support (I-134) that is filled out and signed (original) by your sponsor. With this form, you need a copy of the sponsor’s passport and 2012 tax return.

Hey there!

Can someone please help me, never done anything like this before and first time looking at the I-134 Affidavit of Support

1. Does the person supporting you have to be a US citizen?
2. where do you send the forms?

thank you! :)

If i want a family member (not US citizen) to be my sponsor can I fill out and send this form?

I-864, Affidavit of Support Under Section 213A of the Act

You do not to complicate it and to tire yourself mentally with Affidavit of Support.
To verify (cause you cannot send I-134 unverified) with notary public I-134 + administrative costs + to find find a good sponsor, who must be US citizen or resident who must publicly reveal his income for at least last three years and that income has to cover 125 % poverty line level for all of you + to send it to you for the interview so that it becomes part of the application- it is all too much.
All you need is a good guarantee letter from someone who is inviting you to his address and enough money as per general guidance, that would be a bank statement for the last six months

Indeed it all varies from case to case.

But in general, you could be either a good or a bad applicant: if the consul decides to ask for affidavit of support on top of other - this is usually a sing that something is wrong with your application (such as: they are suspicious the money your bank account is borrowed for the purpose of interview and so on...)

The I-134 is not notarized (according to USCIS instructions for the form). The I864 is not used in DV cases as there is no need for a third party to take financial responsibility for the DV applicant.

I do agree the general point you are making about "good or a bad applicant" - I think they would only keep asking for additional evidence if they had not gained confidence in the persons ability to support themselves. Some people have VERY fast interviews with almost no questions - that must be based on having a strong demeanor of someone who will not become a public charge (along with some evidence of that). The actual standard to be met will therefore vary from one applicant to the next.
