Hello! My question is my wife is not meeting the poverty guidelines based on her income. We though have our savings in the bank accounts. We are five people in the house and she makes close to 22,000 a year. And we have close to 20,000 in the bank account. If the USICS does not accept our savings what other option can we take.
Thank you for you time.

For a household of 5, $32K and change is needed. She is short by 10k. To cover that, one needs assets of 50K. Her only option is to get a co-sponsor.

If you are able to legally work (with valid EAD), you can include your own income on the application as the intending immigrant. Otherwise, you must obtain a co-sponsor as mentioned above.

They will accept the savings. The problem is that the savings are insufficient. Every $5000 in savings decreases the income requirement by $1000. Your $20K decreases it by $4000, leaving you needing either another $6K of income or $30K of assets to meet the requirement.

Are you employed legally in the US?
