Lolade,
The information you are requesting is found on the 2006 Poverty Guidelines posted on
http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/affsupp.htm#income
You stated that your sponsor has a family of
six. Under the Poverty Guidelines, since you and your husband would be living in your sponsors household, he would have to meet 125% of the 2006 Poverty Guidelines for a
household of 8 i.e sponsor, spouse,children/dependants +you and your husband.
As per the Poverty Guidelines, your sponsor would have to show that he has an annual income
equal to or more than $42000.
If your sponsor cannot meet the minimum income requirements using his income, he have various options:
He may add the
cash value of his assets such as money in savings accounts, stocks, bonds, and property. To determine the amount of assets required to qualify,
he would subtract his household income from the minimum income requirement (125 percent of the poverty level for his household size). He must prove the cash value of his assets is worth five times this difference (the amount left over).
Example: Example for a household size of 4:
125 percent of 2006 poverty guideline $25,000
sponsor's income $19,500
Difference $5,500
Minimum Required Cash Value of Assets $27,500($5,500 Multiply by 5)
I am basing my answer on information found on the USCIS website:

I hope this helps. Good luck.
