Affidavit Of Support Question

Hello Folks,
Hope you guys can help me with this question. I will be sponsoring my wife in 2008 by doing follow-to-join through counselor processing. According to the affidavit of support, I have to show a minimum of $17000 annual income. My income since 2000 has been in the high $20s to the low $30s with the exception of this year where it will be lower than $17000 because I was involved in an accident and was out of work for a significant amount of time. I do have a good paying job at the moment.

Since I will be sponsoring my wife in 2008, the affidavit of support will be based on the income level of 2007. Correct me if I am wong. I can have my brothers co-sponsor but I am trying to avoid that. My other option is to have assets equivalent to three times the poverty guidline which could be tough for me.

Can I get a letter from my employer saying I make more than $17000? Can I show my tax returns for the previous years and show that I consistently make more that $17000? Also, by the time I apply for my wife, it will be towards September 2008. There is a very good possibility I will have made more than $17000. Can I show them the pay summary?

Appreciate your answers.
