Hi folks, could someone tell me the correct form to use for the affidavit of support, or even a link to where I can find one.
I am going to need the form for my green card interview in 4 weeks, I have everything else.

I-134 is for nonimmigrant visas. The OP says they are going to a "green card interview". They would surely need an I-864.

No, the OP DOES NOT need an I-864 form. I-864 is NOT used for DV based "green card interview", I-134 IS USED for DV based "green card interview". Since the OP posted his/her question in the "Visa Lottery" forum, I'm assuming he/she is going for a DV based "green card interview"

No, Sm1smom was correct the I134 is used for DV process because there is no petitioner (such as in family based immigration) where the petitioner is required to complete a legally binding affidavit of support - that one being the I864.

Sorry for just getting back, and thanks for the reply, I have an interview in December for the dv lottery and my sister who lives in America is going to support me at the start. I had sent her both forms but wasn't sure which one,

She has now completed the I-134 which I am assuming is correct.

Thanks.

Hey guys,

Just another quick query, im assuming that when im presenting the affidavit to the consulate, that i would need all the materials that are necessary to go along with it? My sister is completing it at the minute and trying to gather all the information that is required and the paperwork, then she needs to send it all to me from the US and my interview is in 2 weeks. If she doesnt have time to send do you's think that a copy would be sufficient?

They might be OK with acopy but the original would be better. I would Fedex it.

A scanned copy of I-134 is sufficient. My brother faced the interview last month with a printout of the scanned I-134 and got visa. no need of the original. thats for sure.

The only thing that is for sure is that no two interviews are the same - and what was OK for one CO might not be accepted for another CO.

Are there disadvantages to using an affidavit, obviously advantages are that you may get the green card but if I were to get to the US and not find employment could I have the social benefits etc, and how does it effect the person who sponsored the affidavit. Not that I'm thinking about not working, it's just a what if question.

At the minute we hopefully have enough money, our interview is in 2 weeks and I'm hoping not to use the affidavit.

Using the I134 doesn't really affect you OR the sponsor.

UNLIKE the I-864, the I-134 is not legally binding on the sponsor. So, the sponsor is saying they will support you but they cannot be held responsible to do so. The only "legal" aspect relates to perjury if the sponsor lies about something on the I134.

Next, about social benefits. The simple answer is that as a new immigrant you are not entitled to MOST social benefits in the USA. Some become available after being there for 5 years but there is almost nothing available for the first 5 years. That is why it is very important to have a plan on how to start your life and to have money in reserve.

You are moving there without a support system in place so you need to get your head around what that means. For some it means leaving the USA and a lot of hassle in returning to their home country.
