I have been offered a fellowship for 2 years and the hospital is willing to sponsor H1B. Now my dilema is should i ask the PD if they can also sponsor me for a GC as soon as i start my job? Will that be a sensible approach?

The other question is can I get my H1 restamped in Canada after 3 years and do I need a visa to travel to Canada for this purpose (Indian passport)

Thanks

A fellowship is by its nature temporary employment and therefore not eligible for a green-card. They would have to sponsor you for a permanent faculty position in order to get a GC. Some people have successfully been sponsored for fellowship or residency positions, but these where cases where either the paperwork didn't reflect the real situation (fraud) or where USCIS didn't catch on to the temporary nature of the job (left hand doesn't know what right hand does sysndrome).
