I have to travel to Guatemala on Sunday and I have sent off my application for travel, I-131. Can I wait over there and get my wife to forward the document to me when it arrives? How will the INS know I have left the country without it? thanks alot.

According to BCIS one needs to apply for AP in US and should get AP before leaving. INS (BCIS) will know because you have to surrender your I-94 with airlines counter and that I-94 goes to BCIS computer to update the entry/exit data. It seems risky talk to your lawyer
