Acute depression

Folks
Please bear with me for this thread. Wanted to share my bad time with the friends on this forum.
I just went into an acute phase after being in a prolonged chronic depressive phase.
Reason
There are people with 140 approved in April 2003 and CP interview in October 2003.
whereas people on this forum have been waiting for 20+ months to get their adjustment done.
Our only problem was to place faith in the system. Our lives now are on hold>- cannot decide on better jobs, location, spending lives on different forums 24/7. I bet many people are not able to function optimally at their jobs because of the constant tension.
Sorry for venting it out. Could not do it before family but hey all of us are like family ....bonded by the same frustation and pain.

I am very sorry to hear that. I have seen my cousin go thru. this same thing also. Stress can trigger chemical imbalances in the brain leading to depression. But there is help. I suggest you to get medical help immediately. This is not a sign of weakness and you must let your family know about this. You need their support. The doctor can start you on zoloft, or prozac etc. that will bring considerable relief. My cousin started doing yoga and that helped her a lot. In such cases the shrink normally suggests you to do things that you like. Take up a new hobby or something.
Also people have been helped tremendously by reading theological books etc. If you believe in Geeta try to read that. It is a very well written book. The trouble with depression is that a person loses hope and these theological books have a whole new approach to life that strengthens ones' believe in faith.
Remember this: There are many in the same boat as you are and many have gone through this same thing in the past. You are not alone.........

If you want to try a shot ..let me know

Guys : Dont be so sad about it...

My situation in 99 : I came to US...lost job in very first month bcoz of some fight with employer. I was almost bankrupt but one day a friend of mine introduced me to power of Buddhism...since then I have achieved my goals and have been protected.

I am still praying for my GC to come in this month(RD 02/26/02). I will post my whole experience about how this Buddhism just changed my whole life...its endless list about my happiness.

My struggle started with mere H1-B...and now GC...

Just imagine my frustration I got to I 485 stage in 6 months...I140 approved in Oct 2001 ,Labour filed in May 01.
I had ups and downs...been fired and.. was again hired by same employer...boy it was horrifying to my self..but prayer kept me motivated and protected.

Keep your self motivated...and if needed send me message.

Just to add to it ..Guy who introduced me to this practice failed in Engg for 2 yrs...and now he is very senior guy in peoplesoft...he got his GC from TX center way ahead of any one in his RD month.
and best is his FP notice got lost for 2 years but one day he called to complain about it...and that was his break through..INS promised to approve him too same time.

I believe that all religions when approached with faith and sincerity helps. Depression if that is really the case, is a medical condition and it needs medical attention. Let us make that very clear as many people suffer from it and do not know how to deal with it. First see a doctor and then practice your faith if that suits you.

I went through bad phase. But maintened chanting Geeta Adhyaa daily with my family. Do activities that will invlove
family and friends.

One more things we used to do is weekly prayer
at somebody's house in the freinds group and
chant verses from Geeta etc. That kept us in good
mental help.

Sometimes it fees that one cannot concentrate on thses
things while waiting for GC. But after one week or so
you will feel the difference.

If you are very very stressful do share some of that
with family. Its very important

Not only religious things but if you can do yoga, gym
for 30 minutes daily it will help tremedously

Thanks
Regards,
vcpat

Story book especially thriller helps a lot taking out the tension and depression. For the last few weeks I am becoming a voracious reader. I read in the bus while coming to the office, I read while going back, I read in the evening and before I go to sleep. It is helping me a lot, I am much more relaxed now

I am very Sorry to hear you guys. On the bright side atleat we came up to this point. For sure some day you are going to make your dream alive.

I strongly believe that day is very close by.

Thank you folks

Just reading your posts makes me feel a lot better.
Being a physician I could realize the symptoms but many people (especially those not in the medical field) dont.
Even though this is off topic to this forum, I would like to point out a few symptoms. If people relate to them, they might want to see their physician because depression is one of the worst silent problems.
lack of pleasure in activities that you once had interest in, feeling of helplessness, worthlessness, guilt feeling, crying for no reason. there are a bunch of other symptoms also. having them may not necessarily mean depression but it will be worthwhile to rule it out.
Talk to your family, your doctor and take care of your health. After all that is the most important thing.
Best wishes to all.

p.s
pl do not construe this as medical advice. This is just my opinion. each person's case may be different.

Believe in God

I hope that you are not an athiest. During the tough times, strengthen your belief in God. Believe that he is going to help you. Believe that ultimately good things happen to you. Do not worry about temporary set backs.
The fact that you realize that you are going through depression (and you posted here too) makes me believe that you are almost normal and i don't think that you need any medication. Medication will only give you temporary relief or make you addict to them. I hope that you have a job. Just concentrate more on job. Goto bookstores (Borders/B&N) and study new technologies. It adds value to your skills.

well said

diverting attention away from this GC business will help the situation. books and meditation techniques given by psychiatriast Dr. Brian Weiss (Many Lives Many Masters) could help.

Re: Thank you folks

Good for you to bring it out. This is something that I have been trying hard to explain. Worrying and depression are not the same. Depression is a medical condition and needs treatment.People do not know about it and suffer in silence. Faith and Yoga help but cannot cure depression by itself. Trying to help my cousin sister (a medical student at Cornell ), I had developed an interest in the subject. It is very painful and people have suicidal tendencies too. That is why it is important to talk to your family about it and have their support.
