Hello,

My relatives received visas and packages. Can the principal applicant travel to the US on activation trip separately from his/her family? They want the head of the houshold who is the principal applicant to travel to the US few months ahead of the rest of the family. I guess it should be OK but just want to confirm?

Eric

Their case was EUR19xxx.
1st letter received april 2008
2nd letter received february 2009
visa received early march 2009

Yes, the principal applicant can go first. After that the dependants are free to travel anytime within the validation period of the visa.

I don't think so.
All the Family must go together at the first time with the Primary Applicant.
If not, then those other member can be considered not interested in activating the green card.

I could be wrong, but it is best to ask KCC...

anyway, I would avoid anykind of trouble like that if I were your relative...

My brother is law won the lottery in 2005 and travled alone his wife and daughter join him after four month, you can travel alone.

Thank you all for replies. I will ask them to check with the US consulate that issued them visa to make sure that nothing changed and they can travel separately. Once I know I will post the reply from the consulate.

I have one more question: when you arrive to a US airport from abroad there are two lines: one for US citizens and permanent residents and another for everybody else. When my relative(s) arrives, which line must he take - one for US citizens and permanent residents but even though he is not PR yet? Also, he does not speak any English, can he request and get an interpreter (he speaks Russian) for his meeting immigration officer?

Would appreciate your replies.

Thank you!

Purity, you are mistaken.

Eric, they can go to any line. The officer will send them to a separate room anyway. Usually the officer can find somebody at the airport to interpret for them, but it's really not necessary. They hand over the passports and packets, get fingerprinted, and let go.

FYI: The consulate replied to my relatives that the principal applicant can go first to the US. So it looks like families can arrive to US separately but it has to be principal applicant who arrives first.

Great Eric2009, please tell us also when your family had succesfully doing it.
Thanks,

and LucyMO, thanks for your correction...

this is new to me and it is also good solution
Thanks again
