One of several threads on action. Guys we all need to do something.

Complain e-mail to AILA's president-elect Palma Yanni, sent today.

Dear Palma,

I would like to bring to your attention the problem with Backlogs in immigration applications and specifically the Employment-based I-485 backlogs. I believe that AILA plays an important role in educating the public and Congress with regard to Immigration facts and myths and I have read your personal contributions to this matter. However, the above mentioned problem did not and continues to receive absolutely no interest from your organisation. One can clearly see this from AILA's advocacy statements and plans for future Congress lobbying. It is inconceivable to thousands of people who work hard, play by the rules, pay taxes year after year to wait indefinitely for a Green card, whenever it may come at the mercy of USCIS. So my simple question is: Why so much emphasis and devotion to selective classes of Immigration, like the Family-based and the illegals? Maybe we should all lobby together for a simple form to change status from legal to illegal and thus be heard and served.
Finally, I urge you to acknowledge the problems that legal immigrants face and make them visible on AILA's calendar of events. Thank you very much in advance for your consideration and your great work in reforming a broken system.

Cinta,
I wrote several mails to AILA president. But no response. It will make difference If lot of our friends here write to her.

Edition,Cinta and All,

I keep on requestion you all to speak/write/contact your atternoys first to speak to AILA, that will make much difference.

AILA is not at all even 0.1% considering our employment based legal immigration problem. I prefere to boycot AILA based lawers...if they are not interested to help.

Please provide email address for AILA.

thanks
Sg

Follow-up

Guys,

I encourage everybody to send e-mails even if no answer is coming back. I am not one who gives up easily. I will follow up and DEMAND ANSWERS. Otherwise they will get it in the PRESS and/or boycott, etc.

Another e-mail OVERDUE is to "Murthy" for her Lobbying efforts!!

If not satisfied in a short amount of time (I have a short fuse as they say, type A personality), then I will give them to LouDobbs, FAIR and I know ALL the places as siding ONLY WITH ILLEGALS.

This is how we should run our campaign, fearless, demanding. That is why I posted the e-mail, so people can take the idea and send more e-mails to AILA president, other members and AILF.

Also, the immigration lawyers who handle our cases. I did that with no luck, actually paid the price. I encourage all to post the e-mails and post the answer and/or the lack of it. We need everybody to somehow get involved. A lot of our friends are yet to get baptised in this process.

Read what I posted (from her website)for her lobbying efforts and if her lawyer ever mentioned employment based immigration in the so called"mini Lobby" with Congress.

I think so not many Lawyers are thinking about 485 clients.
I think that nothing is free here. We should not expect that our own layers should put extra efforts. Even if we ask them they will do whatever they want to. Most Lawyers are only interested Money . Keep in mind historically 485 waiting was 2-3 years. Which was normal. Since in 2001 timeframe it was 6 months people started hoping for better. and when the Unlucky post October 2001 applicants had thie applications halted people got frustrated. especially because their compatriots got approval in 6 months and now they are waiting for 2+ years. I think so nothing can be done about 2-3 years of wait. I am sounding pessimisti but that was the case pre 2001 days. Some senoirs can support this statement. I think so the only way to end this misery is to go for CP and advice our new applicants to go for CP. since CP we can get approved within 6 months.

ANSWER BACK FROM AILA

Thank you for your note, XXXX. AILA is very concerned regarding employment-based backlogs, which are absolutely unconscionable. We have many
public statements on this, and continue to press for funding for USCIS and other simpler reforms - like an end to re-adjudication of the same issues
which unnecessarily delays adjustments. I recently was on a panel with Director Aguirre at the Migration Policy Institute, and I addressed this
issue with him.

Palma Yanni
President, American Immigration Lawyers Association

Notes: We can get answers. Migration Policy Institute. Other think tanks like Cato...

Good job Cinta! I think that is the right way to go! Keep pressurizing them and ask them for answers! Ask them WHY isn't AILA doing anything for us? Aren't we paying our share of the application fees? Why this discrimination?

If enough of us make a fuss, then they will know we are awake and alive, and kicking. We will make noise, because that is the only way to get action.

The squeeky wheel gets the oil! If we sit quietly, expecting them to give us our green cards at their lesuire instead of our RIGHT! Then nothing is going to move. I for one, am going to send an email to AILA right now!

e-mail ID??

cinta, whats her e-mail address? I searched in google but couldn't get it (my company has some filters). Would be helpful if you can point to the page. Keep it up!!

I don't believe that the processing time historically was 2-3 years - there were fewer visas available, so people with approved 140s could not file for 485s, but had to line up for a visa number thus causing the 2-3 year processing timeframe. The actual processing time was always < 1 yr even in the pre 2000 era

You can go to "www.aila.org" and find the e-mails. OR if you want to send direct to the President-elect.."palma@palma-yianni.com".

We should somehow coordinate all these activities. Maybe post it first before you send it. there is a danger of creating harm than any good..

Migration Policy Insitute

A note was sent to the Co-director of the MPI, "www.migrationpolicy.org", Demetrios Papademetriou. A visit to the site will give you all names involved. This is also what I called ETHNIC campaign.

Dear Demetri,

I was doing a research on Immigration and the current state of affairs of USCIS when I came across your name. I read the MPI's activities and your distinguished immigrant career. I also noticed the recent MPI forum with AILA's president and the USCIS Director, Eduardo Aguirre. I believe that MPI has a strong, legitimate voice and the power to bring some changes, desperately needed by a lot of would be immigrants and citizens and this is the reason I am sending this note to you. Unfortunately, USCIS does not seem to be able to handle the current immigration needs of thousands of people. It is either the lack of funding, stuffing, facilities, information technology, real mandate or the lack of it and security measures! The amazing thing is that a lot of groups are either caught up in this pro and anti-immigration debate or just keep silent and providing hope and prayer as an antitode to all problems, this being the only solution to their narrow and often politicized agendas. The problem I am trying to introduce is Backlogs in immigration applications and the adverse effect on us, our families and the country as a whole, as this has a big economic impact as well. More specifically, I would like to mention Employment-based immigration and backlogs in Employment-based I-485 applications. This is the perfect example of a broken system especially post 09/11, in light of all the additional security measures. A process that used to take a maximum of six months now takes two years or more. When are we going to be eligible for citinzenship? Why so many repeated security checks, some every thirty-five days with no additional resources to handle them? What happened to all their promises from the President, to DOJ, to DHS to USCIS with regard to eliminating the backlogs? The last GAO report was issued in 2001 as if we are doing fine nowadays.
I would appreciate if you could put your spin on all these and maybe provide us with some advise and wisdom. Your input will be highly appreciated. Finally, let me thank the MPI and youreself personally for all your contributions. They are really most needed today than any other time.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the word 'stuffing' instead of 'staffing' in your email to Demetri :D :D :D

Demitri's native language is GREEK as mine. NOT A BIG DEAL. He actually prefers being interviewed in GREEK. A better contribution would be if YOU GOT ANOTHER PERSON FROM MPI and wrote a similar note in better English or any of about six languages spoken in the MPI.
My second e-mail to him will be IN GREEK and you are invited to correct that one also!

Note: We do not need your Oxford dictionary expertise at this time. We need fighters for now.

MPI ANSWER

here is the answer from the Co-director of the MPI. Please write to some other members of the MPI of your choice. We will see if we can raise the bar..maybe we can organise an MPI event..

Dear XXXX,
Thank you for your kind words.
You raise many critical issues which need answers--immediately.
But you know the reasons and the excuses.
i will be with aguirre in ottawa later on this week and i will raise these matter with him once more--but doing things well and faster are probably "above his pay grade." I believe that the function itself will have to be spun off a la SSI or even quasi-privatized ( a "public corporation" of sorts?) IF WE ARE TO CONQUER SOME OF THESE ISSUES.
In any event, lets all try to do our best in these difficult times.
If you have an idea for an MPI event on these matters--we will need the right data and the right people--just shout!
Bon courage, my friend.
Demetri
