Accruing 2-year home residency requirement while on o1?

Hello,
I came to the US with a Fulbright grant and I don't think I have any chance to get the j1 waiver. I'm considering accruing the two-year home residency requirement by going to my home country in long stretches (3 – 4 months) and working remotely.
I’m on o1 visa, so I was wondering if anyone knows if:
- does the time on o1 visa in home country will count?
- can I have a job and sponsor in the US (while on o1) and work from my home country? Will the time still count? I've read in a forum that you are not supposed to work for a foreign company while completing the 2 year time.

Anyone has actually accrued the 2HRR time while on o1 visa?
Thanks!

I accrued 2HRR time on F-1 while working for a University in the US (graduate student) and my H1B was approved based on documentation of that. O-1 should be the same situation. You should show that you have an actual residence in your home country, but even short visits (days) were accepted in my case. In addition, file for a waiver. In my case the waiver came a few days after I already had the visa.
