My 140 is approved and my 485 has been pending since 2003. Now that it may take approximately 2 years to get it approved, I am now considering to become self-employed by having my own company in CA. Has anyone had any experience on using AC21 to become self-employed? Or has anyone heard anything about it, such as possibility and risks?
Thanks a lot!

You can't get EB GC apporved by being self-employed, you need a fulltime job.
However, if your PD is retrogressed by few years, it is ok to be self-employed (or even not employed) for some time, you should switch back to permanent job using AC21 shortly before the PD becomes current.

Armie,
Isn't self-employed one kind of full-employed also, except I am working for myself full-time.

I remember a memo from USCIS last year clarified that AC21 does apply to self-employment as long as you still work in a similar field of your original job.

You can't sponsor yourself as self-employed

Since your app. base on employment. you have to get a employer who can sponsor u for greencard and of course, this employer must be american. otherwise, all these employment based greencard will not make sense.
