About to interview for DV 2009 - advice about whether or not to inform of home ownership overseas

Hello There,

This is my first post on this forum however I have been reading through it for the past six months while awaiting my interview! The advice on here has been fantastic so I'm hoping I might be able to steal some myself...

I have been lucky enough to become current and my interview is set for the 1st of July.

Being an Australian who is currently living in the UK, getting the documents together has been a bit of a nightmare but nonetheless, I am getting there!

My biggest concern is failing to get the visa due to the clause regarding financial independence.

Just to outline my situation I am 28 year old who is employed in the UK on a Work Permit. I have no job secured in the US and have a friend who I intend to stay with while settling in the US should I be successful.

I have £6500 (approx $10,500 US) in savings in the UK, £4,000 of which I have had to transfer from my Australian account last week.

I own an apartment in Australia which is currently valued at $250,000 with an outstanding loan of $150,000 ($80,000 worth of equity). It has been tenanted for the three years I have been living in the UK and the rent more than covers the mortgage repayments.

My question for the forum is whether or not you think I should show evidence of my apartment in Australia or just keep quiet about that? I'm not sure if they would perceive it as an asset (which it is) or a liability (which of course it also is!)

I also worry whether or not they might think that I might not remain in the US due to this apartment despite the fact that I have had it rented as an investment property for the past 3 years that I have been living overseas.

I know this is probably a difficult question to answer, but any advice at all would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks all and if you have read this far, well done! :)

Sorry to bump this but I'm really hoping someone can help! My interview is in a week and a half and just very unsure...

well I don't think that the consulate will ask you anything about your property or your financial situation. the affidavit of support usually is asked by people from Asia or Africa whose countries are considered developing - third world and there is a chance to become a public charge.
you will be fine, the CO most probably will ask you easy questions like where do you plan to go and what do you do for a living...
good luck!
