Got RFE request from CSC.

I have some trouble with referecne letter from government agency or recognized organizaion. I tried two PIs from NIH, recommended by my boss. However, they both say that NIH tighten the policy and don't allow employee to write this kind of letter. Seems there is no hope to get one from NIH.

On the example list from RFE request, there is also AAAS.
question 1: Does it mean a official letterhead from AAAS or any member of AAAS is OK? Many people are AAAS members, but without letterhead.

Question 2: is a reference letter from government agency essential for CSC cases? Thank you in advance,

Officially, Sigma Xi, AAAS will only state that you've paid your dues etc. Also, CSC apparently still thinks that AAAS is some kind of acredition society. Try your best to get govt. agency letters - these are tough to get these days. If that fails submit whatever you can.

Letters on official letterhead look better but letters on plain paper are also acceptable though not as eye catching. Try and embellish your petition with color printouts etc. of representative pictures, websites etc. to go with the letters. That could add some punch.

It is extremely hard now. I contacted four researchers from NIH. They all say that NIH don't allow them to write letters for green card application any more. Gosh.
By the way, do you think HHMI works better than AAAS? At least HHMIers are all high-profile researchers, even though CSC doesn't list HHMI on the document.

I forgot to thank your suggestions. I think the best I can do is to get 2 or 3 reference letters from third party and none from govt. agency.

The agencies listed by CSC are only examples. Others will also work. I have no clue about HHMI but it does not hurt to try. Remember, something is better than nothing. If anything, it will indicate to the adjudicator how serious you are about becoming a permanent resident :-). About the help, you're welcome. Just remember there are no tried and tested recipes for this. Use your own discretion. Good luck
