Yes, very safe of them to check all our shoes and liquids, while selling bottled drinks in the plane in glass bottles which would probably make a very effective weapon when smashed.
... and pilots can be blinded by laser pointers aimed from the ground which are now so popular for presentations ... It's all make believe safety and intimidation as far as I'm concerned. If the government really cared about transportation safety they would focus more on the 40,000+ vehicle fatalities each year.
