Able to travel without Visa

Hey, I have been invited to go on a trip for about 4,5 months. I will apply for a B2 visa which I will need to go there for that long.
Someone I know was trying to score me. He said he was denied back in 1998. And they gave him a statement saying that he cant travel without a Visa to the USA anymore.

My Question Is that true that I won’t be able to travel to the united states without a Visa anymore once I have been denied? It is frustrating to just think about it. I don’t beleve that if denied I was thinking to just shorten my trip and come as a regular without a visa. I guess it is called Visa-waiver.

Please help.

Btw: I am from germany

Visa-Waiver is for 3 months only!

To the best of my knowledge, the visa waiver program for most west european and select other countries is only for a three month tourist visit to the United States.

If you wish to stay longer, you must get a valid visa in the right category. For the three month trip, you can enter the US without a visa and still be okay.

If you have a valid reason to travel to the US for 4-5 months, I don't see why they will deny you a visa, esp. as a German citizen.

Hope this helps. You can also check out the US consulate information online for Germany.

If your friend was denied ENTRY to the US or overstayed 90 days on VWP, s/he can no longer use Visa Waiver and s/he must have visa everytime to visit the US. For you case, if you intended to stay less than 90 days, it is very likely that visa will be denied as you can use VWP.. you need to tell them that you are going to stay longer than 90 days(or other reason such as you will go back and forth between US and Canada/Mexico for extended time, or you wll go by sea, or you will fly with airline which is not registered with VWP)
