In my H1-B visa, I have a A#. However, When I apply for I-485, I was assigned another A# in my EAD and travel document. Is that normal, or should i call to correct it?
My A# is different for H1 and 485. Its the same for a lot of people I know. Do not worry about it. I was worried about the same thing but it does not make a difference. What is important is to make sure that the A# on all applications after filing 485 should be the same as the A# on the 485 (EAD, AP etc).
I filed my 140/485 concurrently so the A# was on both of them. I would think that the A# for the GC process is the one that will be assigned to the 140 application since that is what you will file first. This A# will then stay consistent through the end of the process.
I actually talked to an officer over the phone about this. And she said your A# for GC would be the one assigned for 485. Your AP and EAD follow that 485's A#.
I had problem with my first AP on the way back in to US. My A# on first AP issued was my old one (I think it was H1B A#) - then I had to get in with my H1B visa instead of AP that time (Thank God! My H1B entry visa on my passport was still valid for another 2 days).
As per tsar, A# number will be assigned on I-485, and it will be found on I-485 receipt notice, can you make sure? as per your case...concurrently...do you find the A# on I-140 receipt notice also?
