A very strange and embarrasing question?

Hi friends,
I am planning to leave in the next 20 days to New York with God's grace. And here is my question. A friend of mine who lives there, has asked me to take something very strange to him, hahahah!!!! It is something called Naswar( a variant of Snuff. It has tobacco and other ingredients in it. People make small balls out of it, and put it in their under lips, and get some pleasure as they claim. The question is, Will they allow me at the US airport with such a thing? I mean, I don't want to be arrested and put in jail, for this Naswar thing, hahah!!!! You can check what "Naswar" is basically.
And what do you say, should I call the State Department and ask this question from them? Or maybe the KCC girls, hahah????

I know what is it I will advise to do not take a risk this time bcause
U will have to go through the immigration process they might think its a drug thing
Rather take on second time .

Also, as they say, when you travel overseas, never bring anything that someone else has given you. So for example, someone might give you a harmless looking toy to give to someone else when you arrive, but it might be full of drugs inside, and now you are on the hook for a crime that you really did not commit.
 
If it has no official packaging stating ingredients, etc., I'd avoid bringing it because you WILL have to declare it as a plant product, and wouldn't want to explain an unlabelled tobacco product form Afghanistan (if I'm not mistaken) which could have traces of narcotics.
 
Gabam don't put ur self in unecessery troubles like said above its not worth ur friend can get enough chewing tobaco by the cowboys .
U still my hero allthe way gabam I know I will go the same way u went .....
 
Don't risk it, nobody knows exactly what went into that mix, it could be something that's illegal in USA. It's not worth it.

I would strongly recommend NOT to take it. You have no idea about the real composition and you probably need to declare it - the beagles from department of agriculture will find it anyway.

You learned it the hard way to get your visa, so don't risk it!
 
Thanks guys, you guys are right, I should not be doing something silly and innocent. Althought the amount would not be more 100 grams, but you are right, nobody knows the real composition of that stuff. Although it is readily available here, in the open streets, in the markets, everywhere. And most of us, unfortunately, use that shit. But, still, one should be careful. Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions. I will try to convince my friend, and tell him my limitations. Thanks once again guys!!!!
 
I'm glad you have chosen not to. Don't subject yourself into being considered a mule :(. I have watched a ton of folks in the "Locked up Abroad" documentaries get busted for the littlest things ever!
 
Guys, whilst I agree that it is not a great idea to transport anything for anyone else, I think some of you have been watching a bit too much TV. A small amount of this stuff is acceptable and as you will see from the link I provided above there are special laws in place to facilitate shipping of the stuff to people in the USA (building a route around other anti tobacco laws). America is not tough on decent people who are not abusing rules and laws... and sometimes you have to understand you have the right to stand up for your rights.

As an example, a couple of weeks ago I received a letter from the Florida Department of Revenue. They were claiming that I had underpaid a purchase ta on a house I bought a few years ago and they had put a warrant on my property! I provided the evidence that I had paid the tax including the check that they had cashed! After several phonecalls and emails they sent me their "final decision" from a senior manager that the tax demand had been in place for too long and I therefore needed to pay it or launch an expensive appeal process. They said there was "no legal way" to resolve this without me going through this process according to their rules. I was incensed at their stance for putting me to trouble and expense for THEIR mistake. I wrote a letter explaining that I wasn't going to follow their rules or process and I was about to invoice them for my hourly rate for every moment I had spent on the case so far and from that point. I told them to sort out the problem at their end or else I would make it my business to drive them crazy with paperwork requests and so on. A few hours later the "no legal way" thing evaporated and the case was closed! My point is you can fight these matters if you are in the right - and as future LPRs you had better get used to standing up for yourself because the laws are often not implemented correctly...
 
What's my country of eligibility?

Hi guys

Sorry it's been probably asked a lot. If I was born in Russia but don't have Russian passport. I have Israeli citizenship and currently study in UK. So my country of eligibility is Israel?

Britsimon, I hear what you're saying, but a legal battle would be a pretty crappy way to start a new life. I'd personally go for the safe option too and not bring it in, unless he can get the stuff in some kind of commercially packaged form.

No, it's Russia - where you were born. Your birth certificate presumably confirms your birthplace. And it's best to do a search to find the most relevant thread to post your question in!

Not sure what that has to do with gabams issue. Good luck with a legal fight if it would turn out that this stuff contains controlled substances.

I completely agree that being (almost) American you have rights, and you have to exercise them. I had a spirited argument with a CIS officer because she gave me a wrong direction and insisted on it. Having said that, Gabam would be in a very weak position should CBP finds a trace of opiates in his Naswar. As I understand it opium products are very easily available over there, and there's no way to know whether a Naswar seller sprinkles some of that stuff in to increase the potency.

If it's for his dad maybe it's worth risking it, but not for a mere curious friend.

I agree with hexa, I know also that QAT is illegal in france, so I woudnt be surprised if aswar doesn't contain some of it just to get u addicted to it! So in my opinion if its illegal in france must be and surelly the same in usa. Other friend of mine took some grains from my home country to plant it in his garden just to have some different varieties and bragues with his friends about his exotics plants.... But he had them all reposessed at the airoport ! He even told me that they washed the sol of his shoes!! May be he whas exagerating I woundnt know !

They show that program here. I always sit there with an open mouth at a) the audacity of people that have their whole suitcase stuffed full of exotic prohibited items and b) the unbelievably anal stance the Aussies have on the range of things you can't bring in to Australia.

In contrast to that I went through US immigration/customs check around 70 times when I was commuting from the UK and I would guess I was carrying something slightly illicit about 60 of those 70 times (things like tea bags, marmite and so on for fellow brits). In all those visits I never had a single search or a single problem.
