A UI based tracker for month of february

I am almost finished writing a Java/Swing based program which
will allow people to run Kashmir like reports, but with a catch.

The report will be only for the month of February. The program
will be very easy to use. You will need basic understanding of
Java to get it to work. Since there won't be a installer for this
stuff it will be up to you to make changes to the run script to
point to the proper jdk location on your machine.

It won't use proxies so you can only run parts of february at a
time. So the whole month of february will be divided in to three
parts. You can only get a report on one part at a time. Right
now this section is just an idea I am exploring. It can change.

The idea is that 3 people can run reports daily/weekly for the
month of february and post them here.

The zip file containing the program will not be posted here but
mailed to individual volunteers.

I would like to know if people are interested in running such a
Java program? Post your comments here and we will see how
this turns out.

Why Feb and not the rest of the year?

Will running a Feb scanner help as far as figuring out trends? As seen from the last Project Kashmir reports, the approval process ranges all the way from Jan 02 - Jan 04, so not sure if FEB case scanning is enough.

What about WAC number masking? Will the scanner post only summary or a more detailed breakdown of actual WAC numbers?

How do you plan on obtaining all the 485 cases for Feb?

How do you plan to get around the legal ramifications as raised in various posts.

Not trying to thread crap but in my opinion the last point above is the most important of the lot.

I have full data for year 02 given by Kashmir.

Me? Somebody else will run the program. I will provide them with
code. Code uses proxies so it is hard for USCIS to tell that its
coming from certain site. Just like Kashmir. Also it is scanning
only month of february so not many server hits.

So you just provide the gun eh? :) Well technically anyone can pick up Kashmir3.zip and pretty much do the same.

But somehow this doesn't seem as honest an effort as Project Kashmir, where Kashmir has been standing up to the risk and yet providing all the details.

With the resurgence of a new Project Kashmir, maybe this effort will not be required.

oh..now we are getting frissssskkkkkyyy ehhhh....all the techi talks and no actions...are u project manager or in same category.....

Technically anybody can provide take the kashmir3.zip and
start producing result. You make it sound like eating cotton
candy. Don't you? :D

I posted a HTTPUnit version of kashmir3.zip few days back
on Project Kashmir which about 35 people have downloaded.

That is a sample of how it can be done. Doing it is another story.

Let me assure you that it is not exactly taking kashmir3.zip
and starting to crank out reports. In fact why don't you do this.

Just take a few weeks for writing something on top of
Kashmir3.zip and send me a sample that can scan for just one
day. I am sure it will be a learning experience for you.

Dude this thing is not simple. In the past I have helped Kashmir
do half the scans for wac02 year and it can be tough job.

For your kind information, I did publish 3 reports of Project
Anaconda for wac 02 year before I stopped bcos I thought
USCIS is not going anywhere with the 485 cases.

The idea is to provide people with the tool. If they can handle it
comfortably then I can help them with more. But this process has
to be decentralized. Some people can run February. Some can
run March and some can run April. We gotta begin somewhere,
so February it is.

No. I am not a Project Damager. Just a hardcore programmer.

Snd I do lot of action. Don't you ever see those cool charts
on project kashmir?

Anyway, I will let you do the talking. I am ready with the
Feb Scanner. I will mail the interested parties the scanner on
the weekend.

You are barking up the wrong tree, dog! I program hard core in Java/Swing on a daily basis, and GUI design is exactly what my job profile is. It is dead easy to write an GUI interface, so please don't try to convince me otherwise. :)

As far as the code is concerned, I already have my own code in place and as far as running reports, I just don't have Kashmir's dedication.

Kudos to you if you are providing an easier user interface for the community. It is a great effort. But the restrictions you posted in your original post were what prompted my comment. If you just upload the code up for everyone to use and have no restrictions on it, now that is something.

The report will be only for the month of February??

Where in the world do you guys have time for this...

Between this job and the family, I hardly find time to even watch a TV show, leave alone writing an application that does nothing but increase frustration due to the BCIS's speed.

I just could'nt stop myself, so I am posting this quote. Sorry if it offends anyone-

"If builders built houses the way programmers built programs, the first woodpecker to come along would destroy civilization." -Gerald Weinberg
:D :D :D

I juggle a 80 hours a week job and lot of other activities and I do watch
a lot of tv. But I don't have kids. I just do things smartly.

Let me tell you a little story. While I was in India my boss sent lot of
Java candidates my way. I would just keep laughing at the kind of stuff
people write in their resume. :D

Back in 1998 we were trying to recruit a few people in India to work on Java.
One resume said "10 years of experience in Java". I could not stop laughing
for an hour.

And at other times I would have candidate exactly say what you wrote...
I program hard core in Java/Swing on a daily basis, and GUI design is exactly
what my job profile is.
Ofcourse 10 minutes later I would really know how much hardcore they are.
:D

I hope you are what you say. Hardcore Java/Swing programmer. Whatever
that means. Swing is piece of cake for me too. I wrote the UI architecture
for a company in the valley whose name starts with a drink. :D Thats why
I am a bartender. :o

Enough of timepass. Time to show some results like mygcwaiter100 said.
I just did a full scan of February cases. I see some interesting results.
I am posting them here. My program is ready. I finally solved all the problems
and I am thinking that I might not even need a UI to do this. I am just going
to keep it simple for most people out there. I can't promise code to anyone.
My employer forbids me from giving anybody any code that I write.

If anybody is writing their own scanner I can help you with ideas. There
are some interesting problems I solved.
1. SSL can hang on certain proxies. 140_takes_4ever you would know
this problem. Won't you dog? :) . Kashmir tells me that he almost never
faces hangs. But I suspect he just has good proxies. Why SSL hangs
on certain proxies? Ask 140_takes_4ever. He is the java/Swing expert.:D
There is a neato trick to solve the hang problem. It can be annoying
to solve this with all the problems Java Threads have but its possible.
2. How can I get as many proxies as I can. I think Kashmir did it the hard
way. He went to sites which listed them and found them out. Trust me.
You need lot of proxies to do scans like Kashmir. But here is a cool trick.
I crawl the site http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html. My program
goes through this website, finds out proxies, tries them and then makes
a list of them and outputs them. Convenient? :D. This is simple to achieve.
When you do that also test the proxy for speed. You can do that by running
a few cases through the proxies. Then you just pick up the best.

I will just add finishing touches to my program and send it out to couple of
people here and see if they can execute it without problems. If this works
fine more people can do other months. That way we will have community
involved. People will have incentives to do their months or periods.

desi-bartender,

Do you do tricks as well? Definitely the 'bitch' post of the week. Enough of blowing sunshine up your own ass. Luckily for us, I am definitely not looking for a job. And luckily for me, I am pretty confident and secure in myself to smile at your juvenile attempt to see who can pee furthest.

Don't really work on HTTP/SSL, but I am sure the answer lies in the wrong implementation of the standards/configurations of the proxy, HTTP/1.1 request to a HTTP/1.0 proxy. I could be wrong but luckily I don't have to get graded on that. Kudos to you for figuring that one out, do you lay golden eggs to boot?

250? Yikes. That is very very bad news. Man this sucks big time. I don't think scanning entire wac 02 series is even possible anymore with that kind of
limitation. It is only time before they reduce it to 50 or less. My god it sucks.
