A quick question about my wife

I hope this is an easy question, but for the life of me, I can't find an answer. My wife from China just got her green card last December. She's in on a temp residence visa, and her petition for a permanent visa isn't until December of 2011.

She was thinking about going back to China to visit her mom. She was wondering if she can just go back with her old passport, or would she need to get a new us passport and a visitor's visa?

She cannot get a US passport, because she is not a US citizen or national.

The 2-year conditional green card is a valid travel document for entering the US, no separate visa is required. She would use her existing Chinese passport to travel internationally.

kwanlau,
you need to understand that your wife's status is a Permanent Resident. Not temporary...
She simply has a conditional green card, and that condition needs to be removed in 2011. If she applies for a visitor's visa, the consulate will revoke her GC.

Aha, thanks for reminding me Jackolantern and LucyMO! So when she comes back to the states, all she would need is to show her passport along with her green card to the guy at the immigration booth, am I correct?
