A# number

Hi all,

My lawyer filed I140 & I485 for me recently. Just right now, I find out she made a mistake. She filled "N/A" in the A# field, but I do have an A#, because I got my EAD(OPT) in 2001, which included an A#. Now, what I should do? Is it a big problem?

Actually, she filed I129 (H1B) for me in 2002, also filled "N/A" in the A# field in I129 form, and later, I got approved H1B with no problem.

Thanks for your help!

My lawyer had done the same - on questioning them, they confirmed that the A# (permanent resident alien #) in the 485/EAD forms supposedly referred to other GC applications u may have filed. It has nothing to do with A# issued during OPT EAD (which is not a "permanent" resident alien number).

U should be ok.

I understand it.

Here is my thoughts. Panic make things worst and gives just worries and made u upset. first remember noone is 'Mr Perfect'. and none of the case are 100% perfect case.

now days we all are facing RFEs.... so always check ur status online. and phone.... make sure that if u move from ur current address always submit 'change of address'. always keep in touch with ur Attorney and thier staff. saying "Hi and Hello' will help great. showing ur face to them will be excelent. keep thier memory refresh... hehehhee. :)

I noticed ppl starts worry when they see other cases status without knowing the detail of pettition and issues and start upset and panic. if other status is not encourageable or they receive RFE based on somthing.... ppl start worry that same case will be happen with them... I always say .... don't panic... every pettition /situation and case is different.

so bottom line is relax and be patient. and believe on your luck.

wish u GOOD LUCK!

Ali

atlantabhopali is wrong. A# once assigned to an individual should be referenced in all applications irrespective of the type of application.

This issue came up during my application and i had this discussion with my laywer about it.

A# is not permenant resident Alien #...It is called Alien Registration Number...

Once again i am not a laywer and this is not a legal advise..you should consult your laywer.......

nikreddy,

Actually atlantabhopali is absolutly correct. A# received during EAD (OPT) is not to be confused with the one that you received with your I-485 / AOS. If that is the only A# you have, you should write - NONE in the column of A #.

Here is what is written in the lawyers instructions that I got for filling the 485 form, I quote

A #(if Any) - Write down any previous A # that you have from a pending or old AOS. (This is not the A# received during OPT on F1 status).

unquote.

In my opinion you are only issued one A#. I have an EAD card and receipt for AP that both have the same A#. I am fairly certain that this same A# is on my approved I-140. I also used this same A# for FP.

In my humble opinion, the A# for OPT (student) based EAD is not to be confused with A# for GC. Ofcourse, u would have the same A# number for the whole GC process - 485, EAD, AP, FP. But it is not the same A# as the student OPT. This has been confirmed by atleast a couple of lawyers I know..

Would be interesting to see if anyone on this board has a different experience. Anyone with an A# on 485/EAD/AP/FP receipt that is same as the A# on their OPT EAD?

ps: w8nc - there is no A# during 140 process. A# is issued on filing 485, as it is used to track beneficiary. 485 is the only application filed by beneficiary (us!). 140 and LC are filed by employer and do not require A# for tracking.

I have two A#s. One I received during EAD (OPT) and H1, and the other when I filed I-485/EAD/AP.

My I-140 may have the same A# as my EAD(OPT), but I can't confirm as I don't have a copy in front of me right now.

Once you have received a new A#, you should use it through the rest of your business with CIS.

blackbird2000,

bottomline is you do not need to worry. Your lawyer did the right thing by filling N/A in A# column.
