A few questions

Hi,

We are applying for the lottery and just want to know a few things before we do.

If we get accepted-

1. Where are you required to get you criminal Police Clearance from? From everywhere you have lived or your current location? I am applying using Zimbabwe as my home country although I was born there but only lived there until I was two years old. I am currently living in Japan. I have an Irish passport through family, but have never actually lived there either. I have lived in the UK and South Africa and now, Japan.

2. What do we need for the medical exam? Does this need to be translated? Do we need vaccinations?

3. Exactly how much money do you need? If you don't have enough, will this mean that you cant get the visa or are you allowed a sponsor?

4. Should we have all of the documents ready before May 1st or are you given a time limit to have them ready? What exactly is it that you send to Kentucky?

5. My husband has a South Africa passport and so it is extremely hard to get a USA tourist visa. If we aren't succesful with the lottery but want to go on a holiday to USA, the embassy ask 'have you applied for the lottery before?'** If we answer yes, will it affect us getting a tourist visa? Can they actually check if you have entered it?

Thank-you!

I think the big ??? is IF one gets accepted. I have been applying for the DV lottery since 2005 and was only successful for the 2012 cycle. With all the publicity of the DV lottery over the past few months, I am sure that there will be many more applicants this year.

1. You need a police clearance for every country you have stayed in for more than 6 months since the age of 16.
2. Only once you have been selected, you will receive further instructions on where to have your medical exams completed - this info is usually sent to you in the 2nd NL.
3. You need to have some sort of percentage above poverty. If you go through the travel.state.gov website the information is there.
4. Only if you are chosen, you will be given further instructions to proceed with your case. You don't need to get any documents in order before. If your husband is from SA, he might want to get his unabridged birth certificate and your marriage certificate in any case. You always need these documents. My birth certificate took over 9 months when I applied in 2004. I am still waiting for my daughter's birth certificate almost 2 years later.
5. I have a SA passport and have been applying for the DV lottery since 2005. I have never had an issue with a tourist visa. The first one was a 3 year multiple entry visa from 2006 and the second a 10 year multiple entry from 2010. We did go under AP for the 2nd tourist visa but received it about 4 months after applying.

Good luck!

Hi Jay

I am curious about this. I have applied DV13, and my husband is Canadian (although hasnt lived in Canada for over a decade). I was under the impression he did not need to get a clearance from Canada as he has not lived there for so long.

Can this be clarified please? :)

Warm wishes
