Hi,

I am returning to the us for 3 months after being away for about 3 months, and I would like to complete the process while I am there.... if I were to send the application a month prior to arrival, would there be any chance I would get it all done in time? Would the interview be in Pittsburgh or in Philadelphia?

I live in Pittsburgh, I understand that I need to send it to TX....

I have been out of the country for 3 out of six months for the past year, is that a problem? (3 months away, then three months back...)

I currently am unemployed, are there any employment requirements or sponsor related issues like for GC?

Are there any restrictions on travel between application and interview? how about between interview and oath, can I leave the US then return for the oath? Does my spouse have to be there?

Is it recommended to use a lawyer for this, or is it pretty straightforward?

Thanks in advance..

I am assuming you have maintained residency in Pittsburgh for at least 3 months before you left and still maintain it currently (apartment lease, insurance, bills, statements etc.). You will re-establish residency only after you return back to Pittsburgh and then can mail in your application ASAP (not one month before). I believe Pittsburgh has a DO and you will be interviewed/FP there. Re-verify on USCIS website.

Yes

Only 3 months in a year should not be a problem assuming your physical residency requirements are met.

Not really although they ask you that question in the form and at the interview but its usually not a big deal.

Are there any restrictions on travel between application and interview?
No! Provided you can come for FP and you continue to maintain the requirements for minimum residency. Too many long visits can be questioned for intend.

how about between interview and oath, can I leave the US then return for the oath?
Yes! Provided you maintain residency, see above.......

Does my spouse have to be there?
Not if filing under 5 year rule but preferable (though not mandatory) if filing under marriage to USC.

Usually pretty straightforward to do it yourself unless you have some unique scenarios like major arrests etc.

Thanks in advance..
You are welcome :)
