A Couple Of Thoughts

In going through the immigration process, I've often wondered a couple of things....

1. Why do we need AP? (I know to travel from the US) What I mean is, it seems ludicrous to me that you need special permission to do so. Why couldn't the I-485 receipt be enough? They have a computer at the border. I'm sure they could quickly enter the number to ensure that the petition is still valid. Anybody know what the "logic" behind this is?

2. They always cite national security and security checks as the major factor in GC delays. A lot of the rules changed as a direct result of Sept.11 so the increased checks must have been implemented in an attempt to weed out terrorists. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most people who have applied for an EB based GC are already in the US. It's my opinion that somebody with ill intentions towards the US isn't going to bother going through the GC process when they are already in the country.

Anyway, just thought I'd share a couple of thoughts and maybe create a little discussion.

Best regards to all

Yup. And "advance Parole" sound more like what a criminal would get, something like a bail! Why can't they name it something else?
Another thing they can do is to have just one document combining AP and EAD. Why have 2 documents and double the processing hassles when they can designate AP to also serve as employment authorization?
Lot of things in government don't make sense and these are just a small sample.

I could give you many more

There are many, many requirements of immigration laws that are antiquated or plain old dumb. Hopefully we will work them out one issue at a time (if not faster).

Re: I could give you many more

Speaking of security check, the whole purpose is to identify the potential threat. However, under current circumstance the real terrorists are probably very safe , since it take years to check somebody...unless CIS is just using security check as an excuse for their inefficiency. I think Rajiv should make it clear to the court that fast adjudication is in the benefits of national security!
