trying to understand better the following citizenship requirement ...

"•Have lived within the state or USCIS district with jurisdiction over your place of residence for at least 3 months prior to the date of filing Form N-400"

does the 3 months refer to the physical residence?
3 months over what period? the same year of filing? or right before the filing?

thinking that I will be most likely traveling abroard before the filing but I have lived in the same state for 6 years at least.

Thanks for help!

This means right before the filing, and it does not care if you are absent temporarily while traveling abroad. If you are traveling abroad and return to the same house you left from, it is not an issue at all.

thanks for the reply.

my intepretation is that 3 mos req is for maintaining the residency (evidenced by rental agreemments, utility bills, etc) instead of being physically there for 3 mos.

is that correct?
