8 types of Security Checks ??? Your thoughts, please

I got stuck with Name Check for one and half years. In November, I recevied a letter from my senator office that my file is pending because of pending NC results from FBI.

I finally recevied a letter from FBI that they finalized my NC in December. In response to the inquiry, I then recevied a letter from USCIS stating that "The investigation into your background checks remain open".

My attorney's assistant spoke with the USCIS representative yesterday. They confirmed that my NC Is complete. They said that NC is one of the 8 checks they do. They will have to complete processing on all security checks to move forward.

I am confused. Is this a new process? Are you aware of this 8 types of security checks? Anyone else has recevied the same response from USCIS.

Please share your thoughts.

I never heard about 8 checks= security checks. But, USCIS representative told me over the phone that everything was OK with FBI and they`re waiting for results of investigations from an external agency. Then, I got a letter from VSC saying that I`m stucked in Security Checks. What a blind game! We don`t know, for sure, what`s going on. How come they aprove right away the ones that file WOM, if these checks aren`t just about FBI.

Jhawilla - Thanks for the response.

In response to senator's inquiry in November 2006, they wrote a letter very clearly that they were waiting for FBI Name check results to proceed further. Now that they recevied NC results, here's another excuse that not all of the security checks are complete. I am totally confused.

The waiting game starts again with no clue on how long more.

Good Luck to everyone who are also waiting patiently

luckyone2000: Based on the link below there are three independent checks performed:
1. The Interagency Border Inspection System (IBIS)
2. FBI Fingerprint check
3. FBI name check

I got more comfusing info. Today I got information that I pass Name check, but one of the first two checks expired and need to be reviewed again    .
For fingerprint it is 18 months, so it is still valid for me. Sounds like I need update of IBIS??? Anybody got any info about it?

nastena - If your FP done 15 months earlier, they consider it as a expired. This is what I heard from Cognressman's office yesterday. I read in the forum that IBIS check expires in 30 days. Good news is that both these checks should back quick.

I am also guessing, these two checks on my case were expired.

Good luck.

You may take a look at this page. It lists about 9 different databases. and it has a note
At USCIS (Homeland Security Department) stage, currently, NCIC, IBIS and NIIS database checks are done, with the option, if warranted, to do additional database checks.

I also got a letter from senator that name check is complete but on enquiring with USCIS i got got reply that "the required investigation for your background remains open."
Then I got finger printing notice and three months after that when i had a infopass appointment. the LAdy over there told me that my name check should be most likely be cleared but cant say 100% sure because it was initiated twice and it was cleared once and once it is pending .

I dont know why the USCIS guys talk in cryptic language

For my cases, it was a blank screen, except oneword "VSC".
