H-1 Receipt Notice

This is not unusual. If you have applied under regular processing it could take 2 to 4 weeks for USCIS to issue the receipt notice.

Anna, or anybody else willing to help
I really need your advice.
My H1 transfer petition will be filed this week. My attorney strongly advises me to wait until we receive a fee receipt notice from the Vermont Service Center before I start working for the new employer. He actually advises to not even stop working for my present employer until we have that notice. The employer wants me to start working as soon as we have a Fed-ex receipt of delivery of the application. Apparently, they have used this approach in the past. The attorney says this would still represent a risk, since if, for example, there is anything missing in the application, it would not actually have been filed, and, in such a case, I would be working unauthorized. According to the attorney it should take 7-10 days to get an actual receipt notice, but I also see on these forums that it could take much longer, and that you might even never get the notice, but get an RFI several months later.
Whom should I listen to?

If I chose to stop working before getting the receipt notice, but wait for the notice before starting my new employemnt (I could be in this waiting patterns for several weeks), do I lose my H1 status?
