7 th year extension from new employer

Hi ,
I am working for company X and have labor pending from future employer Company Y. My 6 year H1 limit expires in Mar 04.
I am planning to join company Y in month of Jan/Feb 04

To get 7 th year extension from Company Y do I need to be working for company Y (wth valid H1 thru them) and have to have recent pay stubs from them or can I show recent pay stubs from company X and get 7 th year extension from comapny Y ?
