My 6 yrs on H1 expire this june, plan to go to india and apply for h4 as husband's dependent at the consulate in india, will they want to check my h1 papers or will my husbands job papers suffice. Anyone been in this situation before.

The maximum duration one can stay in H Visa(both h1 & h4 combined) is six years unless their labor is pending for more than a year.
If not they have to stay outside usa for 1 year.
If your husband's labor is cleared is pending for more than 1 yr , i guess you could apply for the 7th yr extension.
Please consult a good lawyer ASAP.
