6 months after AOS interview

I was AOS-interviewed (family-based) in Houston INS on Dec, 2002, was told to get approval letter within 2-3 months. But almost 6 months went by since then, and I get no further response. I got up as early as 4:00am to line up for status check in front of INS gate last week, and was told by a officer that they need wait for my security clearance result. What should I do? Anybody is in same boat in Houston? How long does security clearance take generally? Can I check if my 'security clearance' is clear or not? Please help me. My God! 6 months!!
 
I am in the same boat as are many others. My case was approved December 26th but put on hold for the checks. Still waiting :(
 
I went to Los Angeles local INS for AOS(through marriage) interview at Nov ,2002.got my case pending. till now, havn't heard or received anything from them.wrote to them twice ask what's happening, no response.

Can you pl. provide the timeline for the Houston service center as to when did you file for AOS and when did you get the interview. Thanks.
