I know some guys who are in category 7, but got only RFE but no interview. I think it is a random quality check.

Possible reasons for transfer!- Other than Baltimore

1) EB1 case- some of the eb1 CASES HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BE TRANSFERRED. Don't know why?
2) NIW cases.
3) Recently married - especially where spouses work / have different addresses.
4) out of status at some point or the other.
5) taxes not paid at some time or the other.
6) FP match hit in FBI database.
7) not working with green card sponsor at time of filing 485.

BTW, do you fall under any of the earlier categories 1 thru' 7 that I have listed above. Please post your reply so that it will help others also.

All the best! and I sincerely hope that you get your Interview Date quickly.

Me too transferred 1 year ago

But I still did not get the interview. It was transferred to NY, NY in Oct 2001 to scheduke and conduct an interview.

I called INS and they told me if a case us transferred from one state to another, then I have to wait 2 years because this is the rule.

Do not fall in any of the 7 categories and even my address never changed. However, I did use advanced parol to visit Canada and I was laid off.

Any info you would like to share in private, plz e-mail me at:
cligman@hotmail.com

I will provide feedback.

Thanks

Ethnic background

Does the Ethnic background (specially Middle Eastern or Arabic) may result in an interview, especially after 9-11?

Hi Cligman.....

I guess you should visit personally INS, NYC office and ask about status of your case. Thus you can make sure that interview call was not lost in mail. Your wait has been too long. I have noticed that NYC takes about 8-10 months to schedule an interview. Some have suggested to contact senator, too.

What do you mean by "transfer from one state to another?" VSC is in Vermont and you stay in NY that doesn't mean "transfer from one state to another" if I understood you right.

Best wishes,

Case xfrred from VT to NY

Hello Jigesh,

I meant to say my I-485 file was transfrred from VT to NY, NY in order to schedule an interview.

Now you said that I could go personally and check this out. I would like to do so BUT there are 2 things that are in my way:

1) You are not allowed to go inside the INS building without an INS letter. This is what INS Information Officer told me when I called their national 800 number.

2) Although the transfer notice said it was transferred to 26 Federal Plaza (i.e., main INS office in NYC), my lawyer told me that she has no idea where my file is. She said it could be in Garden City because INS transfer very old cases there. My I-485 RD is Sep 2000.

So what is the solution?

Thanks

I see. That means you lived in VT earlier and moved to NY. Thanks for clarification. I guess your case should be with the location mentioned on your transfer notice. Physical file should arrive to Federal Plaza office within 4 to 6 weeks from the date of transfer.
Transfer letter should allow you to visit them to check status. I remember somebody on this forum did the same to know the status.

Best wishes,

Jigesh

No, I never lived outside NY

Jigesh,

No, I have never left NY. It is just my file got transferred from VT to NY to schedule and conduct an interview.

In Sep 2000, my I-485 was submitted to the main office INS office(which is Vermont). Yes, although I have lived in NY, still I submitted it to VT like everybody else. This is because it is the only office which handles employment-based I-485 applications.

But in oct 2001, my I-485 was transferred to NY for scheduling an interivew.

I will try to go in person for the interview if they allow me to enter the building with the transfer notice.

Thanks

OK - that's what everybody on the east coast does. Employment-based I-485 are submitted to INS, Vermont service center at St Albans.

Your case seems to have taken very long since your RD is Sept. 2000. You might try to get a senator's help if you wish - several people on this forum have tried to do so in past. Just a thought.

Best wishes,

Jigesh

Thanks.

I will try to go in person....

I hope the interview is a formality and not to just check on my employment.

Thanks again
