485 Medical - NJ Applicants - Be Cautious !

Just wanted to share the experience of a friend of mine.

Went for 485 Medical Exam at a reputed place in Piscataway NJ on June 1st.
Charged $340.
Took all the vitals info, BP etc. TB Skin test and Blood sample for HIV test.
TB Skin test confirmed to be negative on June 4th, but was awaiting results for blood work.

Between a lot of turmoil, and numerous calls back and forth, everyday...the blood work results were still not available (~2 weeks).

This place sends out the blood samples to a outside LAB, whose name or contact information they wont share.

To make the matters worse, upon escalation to various levels and spending days and weeks in agony, my friend was finally able to talk to the Doctor again...The doctor and the Staff were RUDE to the max...telling him that his initial blood screening for HIV was 'inconclusive' and may be 'positive'....and that they had to send it for enhanced HIV test.

The Doctor and Staff, treated him with utmost disrespect, and even advised him to contact his PCP and get an appointment with an Infectious Disease Specialist !!

While he was consciously clear of any reason for him to be not even close to HIV positive, its easy for anyone to get paranoid, on such a sensitive matter.

He had to schedule another appointment at a different place, where he went through the shots and examination, once again, shelling out ~$350. And his bloodwork was absolutely negative for HIV screening, right at the first shot.

This place in Piscataway, NJ is reputed and loaded day in and day out...and many people are expriencing all kinds of problems there. Some with blood work, some with X Rays, and some files are just sheer lost ! And will have to go through the paperwork allover again.

Please be careful !
After spending almost 1000 bucks, finally, they got back to him, apologized to him and gave him the reports, clean. He already lodged a complaint to Better Business Bureau and Consumer Forums.

Just wanted to share it with all of you.

what about second medical

Hi nervewreck,

If the medical is above 15 months old, do they send second medical notice before 485 approval.

Medicals have a validity of 1 year. Within that time frame if it is used to apply for 485, then you should be all set. Then on, you would not need to go through the medical exam, no matter how much time it takes for getting the 485 approval.

If you did not use the medical exam report within 1 year, then you will need to get re-examed.

You are right!!!

:(
This medical group is taking a hell lot of time in giving lab results and on the top of it they are rude.:( :( :(

I wish I had seen this post before I went to them,. Its been 8 days since my medical exam and I am still waiting for the blood test result  They're ext. rude and to top it, now they are not picking up their phones......

I wonder if there's anyway to report them. I am seriously  with them. They've already charged $ 700 (for 2 ppl) and we might require more shots based on the blood test results :(

Got the sealed envelope

We went for testing on 06/18.They called my friend in night around 11.These people are working late night as per the nurse and they have got around 200 appt. in this week for medical checkup.

Complain to the medical board for harassment and not following the HIV counseling protocol and inform dr office that you are going to do this
