I-485 interview - help

I had called INS yesterday and informed them that I moved from California to Nebraska, so that my address could be updated.My 485 status got updated this evening as follows.

On September 8, 2004, we transferred your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status to our office in SAN FRANCISCO, CA for them to schedule and conduct your interview. Scheduling can take several months. Our office in SAN FRANCISCO, CA will notify you when they schedule your interview or take other action on your case. If you need further information, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283.

I do not know if its a coincidence, that they ignored the fact that I do not live in CA anymore. Gurus...what does this status change mean ? Anybody who went thru this pl shed some light.

Did you file your AR-11 form (change of address)? Also did you inform the post office with "change of address" package so the post office in California can forward your mails to Nebraska?

That's good to know that you called INS customer service to update your address and you got your message about transferring your case.

What you can do about your transfer case is:

1) to call INS to double-check about your address, ask them about your case status, and tell her, "I checked online status that my case was transferred to California, but I am currently living in Nebraska. Do I have to go to California for the interview or is it possible for you to notify California to transfer your case to Nebraska local office?"

2) to go to the local BCIS office (walk-in information center) in your state (Nebraska) and ask to check if your address is correct and ask them if it is possible to transfer your case from California to Nebraska since you moved to Nebraska.

It is very simple. Don't worry. You will be fine. As for my case, in the past, I always double-checked with BCIS customer service and local office about my case status (they transferred my case to my local office. I went to the local office to double-check my case status. I got the interview notice in 3 months after they transferred my case. After the interview, I got my gc approval and my green card plastic card. Hope this helps.)

They will send you an interview notice that has full details including instructions, what documents you should bring, and directions. You should bring all documents that are not on the list on the interview notice letter. Safe is better than sorry.

I sent in the AR11 2 weeks since. I will call INS Customer service and inquire if they can transfer my case to Nebraska from California.
