Hi,

Is it feasible to file the 485 / EAD/AP applictaion myself instead of going to a Lawyer. It is a EB3 substituted labor and my company will give me the I-140 receipt to file 485.

The lawyer is asking for $2.5K and $750 for a personal appearence in a interview if needed.

What is the benefit of having a lawyer. Please tell me ur. experiences.

I say ripoff...file the 485 yourself and save the money for an interview if you have to have one. For me, I would pay any amount of money for the interview, because this could be a life and death situation, but forms you can complete yourself.

Some advantages to having a lawyer

- lawyer gets a copy of 485 approval..in case your copy gets lost in mail

- if you hire your own lawyer...and you have trouble with your employer..it helps in arguing change of job/status with proper docs (lawyer has past experience)

- lawyer might be helpful in a non-routine RFE

...i am not rooting for any lawyer ...just my 2 cents

Rightly said. I agree verbatim.

If you need a lawyer just to have an extra address to receive your 485 receipt then I must say that its pure waste of money. what an expensive mail box.
USCIS is a cryptic organization but the forms are straight forward. After filing for F-1, optional practical training, multiple H-1 Bs, EADs, APs I could say that instructions are very clear and easy to understand in most cases.
(Of course RFE, court appearances, interviews do require qualified legal counsel)
