485 approved / US selective service

Hi gurus,

I am not sure which forum to post this question in. Please let me know if you know any other appropriate forum.

A coworker from my office got his 485 approved last year from VSC. He was 26 years and a few months old when his 485 was approved.
I know there is a rule that one needs to register with the US Selective service if they get US permanent residency when they are between the ages of 18 and 26.
This guy is wondering whether he will need to do this as he had just turned 26. Does the rule apply until one completes 26 years or completes 27 years?

Anybody aware of this rule?
Any opinions, gurus?

Thanks.

I believe it is 27. I learned this from my lawyer, but I don't know where to find the official information.

485 = automatic registration for SS

When you submit your 485 application, sometime during its processing you are automatically registered for SS if you qualify i.e. you are a male between 18 and 26 years of age. Further, you can go to SS website enter your personal information there and check to confirm your registration.

Hope this helps.
