485 approval process

can someone please explain what is the sequence of events that will happen during the stage from 485 approval to get the final green card.

How many times the LUD changes before the 485 approval? Does it vary for each and every applicant?

Do we have to personally go to the immigration office for stamping on the passport etc.?

Do we have to surrender our existing EAD/AP etc at the immigration office?

Not sure what u mean by "from 485 approval to get the final green card." => Approval of 485 results in the generation of the card. The only steps would be getting 2/3 LUDs ("Card Production Ordered", "Welcome letter" & "Approval notice") in any order. Normally, u should receive the physical card in 7-10 days after the "Card Prod Ordered". Any/all of the 3 LUDs mean 485 has been approved.

# of 485 LUDs prior to approval vary from case to case: I never got any LUDs (apart from the FP-related).

No need to surrender the EAD/AP..u can just frame them for posterity ;-)

The stamp in the passport is only if u did not receive the physical GC

Hope that helps

thanks for the responses.
When i talked to one of my friend about the approval process, he mentioned that after getting the approval letter he had to go the local USICS office and get the passport stamped etc.. (he did all these in 2004 , so i guess it was an old process)

Some folks (a small majority) are asked to come in for an interview and if all their checks have been cleared and their PD is current, then (often), their passport is stamped. This stamp is just a temp/stop-gap approval. The final/more-robust approval is when they receive the physical GC. Check with your friend : he is must have received the GC (physical card) too at a later date.
