Hi Everyone,
I need some help.
I am in the process of concurrent filing of I-140 and I-485. But I am thinking of moving to another state in 3 months from now. Moving from IL to NJ.

My questions are:
1) If I apply 485 now and move in 3 months and then finger print notice comes in for old location (IL), how would i handel it?

2) Is it a good idea to inform INS about change of address within 2 months of applying for 485? If so, how would I inform INS?

Thanks in advance.
Abhijit

always a good idea to inform change of add

because it will be a problem if RFE is generated for employment and then you have stubs for NJ and your center is different. then it MAY become a very problematic case.
change of address is sent to kentucky and your service center. I have filed 485 and will be moving to diff state. I will be sending my change of address also.

It's not a matter of "a good idea" or not. Regardless of when you move from your current address: two months, three months or x months from filing your I-485, you must inform BCIS within 10 days of change of address.
It is required by law.

Go to www.immigration.gov and click on the link that says 'How do I'. You will find the complete instructions there.

Guys,
I guess I have confused you all.

I always inform INS about change of address.

But I am planning to apply for I-485 now and then move in 3 months from now. (Note that it's the same job with same company as appear on the labor. I have been traveling till now and want to move in 3 months). But in the event of my applying for I-485, I am trying to figure out the impact of change of address since I am going to move within 3 months of applying 485. If I get a fingure print notice for the old location (which would be 800 miles from the new location that I am going to move to), how would I handle? First of all, I am not sure even the fingure print notice will go to my new address (via USPS or via INS change of address application AR11).

Hope this clarifies little better.

If I were you, I would apply after moving

Recently i made an instate move and then applied for AP and it was approved and will be sent to new address. We just do away with file transfers etc ( no unnecessary confusion). You would not want the files to get lost or an unnecessary RFE.
The reason I said "good idea" was that there were some posts on this forum where people advised against informing the change of address. Hence i advised that its not a good idea to bend the established rules and to always inform if a person changes the address (basically go by the book).
My advice again....:)
Hope this helps.

My advice is....

1. Try applying while you are in NJ

or

2. Why don't you give any of your friends address (Preferably in NJ, rent a house in same complex or if you have a friend in NJ with permanent Address. So that you can continue till the end of your GC approval with out changing Address.)

Don't apply in IL and change your address to NJ later with in 3 months. You definitely will get an RFE for that type of cases.

PS: This is not a Professional Advice.

Hi Abhijit,

This is my experience. I moved to a another state just 2 months after filing I-485. Very next day after the move my lawyer received the Fingerprint notice and mailed them to my new address. Few days later I also recevied the Courtesy copy forwarded to my new address. All this happened before I could inform INS about the address change. I went to the local INS office and told them about the move and had FP done the same day.

Hope this helps...

I have moved after filing 485

I have moved from NJ to VA after filing 485 (Within 4 months of filing). I got the notices on my last day at NJ and when I inquired about the finger printing at the local office, they have mentioned that I can do it. This was confirmed by calling the 1-800 number on the notice itself. I had my finger printing at the local office in VA and it took hardly 15 minutes for both of us.

Fining Change of address should not cause any problem other than missing the mail during the forwarding. But you can walk to the application support centers with the copy received by your attorney.

Guys,
Does anyone has any bad experiences on this issue of address change within 2 or 3 months after filing 485?

Thanks in advance,
Abhijit

I485 applied in March'02. Moved to Omaha, NE in June'02. Sent AR11 immediately. Called INS in Jan to enquire about FP. Was told that address did not get changed in INS database until October'02(The zip in their records was wrong too!). Received FP notice on 4/5/03 at my Omaha address.

Suggestion: File for AOS. Move. Immediately send AR11. Call BCIS after a week and verify that their records show the new address.
