Not necessary. Both are different processes. 485 will be approved only when your RD becomes current. Until then, whenever necessary, the applicant can renew their EAD/AP.
I saw a thread in this forum which is discussing about the 3rd EAD approval.

My details :
I-485/EAD RD : Sep 26th,2002
ND : Oct 7th, 2002
EAD got approved on 28th Jan 2003
I have applied for EAD Renewal and AP first time
RD : 09/30 , ND : 10/01
AD : ???? waiting for that
1st FP : 11/08/2003
My and my wife's EAD renewal was approved yesterday. I hope the 485 follows shortly!
