hi
I gave the visa interview for F1 visa for a fuded PhD position in aerospace engineering at TAMU. Straightaway, the VO gave me a questionnaire to fill up and submit. Then he asked me to wait for a couple of weeks for processing time. I asked if they need the resume and the publication list and they said they will get back to me if they need.

I think it s a case of hold under 221g. Is it also possible that the visa gets rejected?
Should I mail the documents myself? What is the mail address?

221(g) basically means the consulate is not ready to make a final decision on your application. Consider it a yellow light. It can go green or red from this point.
I would not advise you to send anything until you are requested to do so. Reason being, if you send anything without their request, they will have no idea which file to place those documents in.

is 221-g a sign of rejection....

I had my Visa interview today at US consulate in kolkata, India. The interview went well and the visa officer also said that you have been issued a visa and wrote some date 11th may 2011 on the i-20 ..BUT.. at the end he gave me a pink 221-g form and a questionnaire and asked me to mail them the answers of the following question :

1) Describe in detail your current field of research/work (use additional sheet, if required)

2) Provide a detailed statement of the purpose of your visit to the US.

3) Describe in detail the real potential application of your work/research. Assume that you are describing your work to a qualified professional in your field.

4) He wrote "SPECIAL INSTRUMENTS" on the last page and said write here about any special instruments you have worked with or will work with.

Please help me out. He said me that you have been issued a visa and this is just a formality but i am at a loss...

In the interview he asked me about my present work field and areas of interest in research..

I told him i am presently Director of the firm " .........." and am looking after the production and research and development department.
As area of research i said i am planning to work on something like reinforcement of nano filler in polymers..
When i asked why my visa has been kept on hold he said its just a routine and has been happening a lot these days....
He kept my passport with him.

He said it may take upto 6 weeks from now to get the final status. What to do????

Hello,
I had my F1 visa interview for the PhD program in the last week of June, 2008 and i went there pretty relaxed. I was handed a detailed questionnaire instead within the 10 sec of the interview. It has been 8 weeks since then and there seem to be no progression in my case. My passport and all the other docs are with the embassy since the day of interview. on mailing the embassy, i got a reply that my case is pending under section 221g. Usually everybdy receive their visa within 4-6 weeks but mine is takin longer than usual. My classes have already started ay the uni n if i fail to join within next couple of weeks the admisiion wud be cancled(as indicated by the Grad office).
Can someone suggest what to do next?? i have been sitting n waiting fr the visa since 8 weeks...

worried
