Hi all,

I have a visa interview on January 14th and have already confirmed it. However, I am now unsure if I will receive my medical results and fingerprint check in time (10 and 20 working days to process, respectively). I've only just come back to Australia after a year living abroad and so have only started scheduling appointments. Now with everyone closing down for the holiday break, I'm running short of time to get my results back before the end of January, which is apparently the time in which I have a visa number assigned to me (according to the US Consulate General in Sydney). What are the chances of me being able to reschedule my interview and receiving another visa number?

Please help!

Your other option is to attend the interview anyway, and send the required documents to the consulate when you get them. If everything else is in order, you'll get a form stating something along the lines that your visa is pending submission of documents.

I think that is what I would do. You may even get both docs. Those delivery time expectations are usually pessimistic.

Tpn12 - my case number is 2014OC000003XX and my initial interview appointment was Nov 24th. I'm living overseas and was a bit late to collate my documents, had to wait 30 working days for the fingerprint check from Aus plus all the documents I had to get for my current city. I ended up pushing my appointment back to January 13th, as there was no availability in Dec. You might have more dates available to you though. Everything was fine and I was approved.
I chose not to hand in my passport just yet as I am going to the U.S for a week tomorrow and was advised to enter on ESTA until I was there more permanently.
The lady interviewing me said the numbers start to run out in July so for me to make sure I have it processed in the next 2-3 months. So I think anything around that you will be fine. It really doesn't make a difference and to be honest I felt far more comfortable and prepared going in knowing I had all my documents together.
Good luck :)

Now that's interesting, and the first semi-official confirmation that at least some regional numbers will run out this year...

Yeah, I think the penny is dropping - as I have posted before it can't only be us that realise the CNs are high this year and progress doesn't seem to be getting there. I think the KCC ladies are fielding a lot of questions from nervous people - and that is why they are a bit less friendly than usual.

That is very interesting, I wonder if she is referring to years past or this year in particular.

Yes they have, but I was wondering due to the fact that she said "...said the numbers start to run out in July so for me to make sure I have it processed in the next 2-3 months." I wondered if she meant in general. I mean really they have no idea what the return rate is going to be between now and then.

Also Interviews in July would be allocated in May, so If they are starting to run out by then well we are all in some serious trouble.

I wonder how a lady in an embassy would know when the numbers are running out in July? Now just January and based on CEAC data, it has less than 100 of visas issued after 3 months. What is the quota for OC? The case has been approved and it should have the visa slot burn down, just left the visa stamp. So, there should not have any impact to the case. I don't really understand why she said the numbers are starting to run out in July.

No I don't understand either, I think it was a strange thing to say to the poster... Unless she means that there are only 3 months so time is running out.

Theoretically, it could run out by July because in the following documents it did mentioned that the max visa allocation for each month is 10% of the regional quota.

But this only happen when all interviews scheduled get their visas, in other word 100% success rate and the visa office really push to the max each month but OC definitely not in this scenario. I believe each region will push for 10% each month if possible and the return rate will handle in August and Sept. So that explained why in all the past years most of the regions goes current on August.

Maybe this is word of caution to the applicant. So don't take this seriously.

That link covers all immigration, not just DV - have you ever seen anything similar for DV specifically?

No but this should apply for DV. Visa allotment are done for all kind of visa at the same time but into different quota. Like Family and Employee GC are based on priority date and DV is based on rank # but all visas are allocated based on quota of their annual numerical limit. For DV is clear 50k.

If you saw the notice for DV2013 about Iranians reaching the cap - they were clear that even if a visa had been approved, if it had not actually been issued when they reached the cap, the person lost out. They don't "hold" a visa slot for you - you only get it when the stamp is printed and goes in your passport.

Hmmmm, having read that document I understand the principle, but don't see the "10% in any given month" rule...
