HI

Quick question regarding my 2007 taxes. I was working part time from 2004 through 2006. So , i filed my taxes for 2004-05 and 06. During 2007, i was going to school full-time and i did not work at all. When i went to my accountant , he told me that since i did not work at all for 2007 , I did not need to file anything.. I was not satisfied and called IRS , the lady on the phone also told me that I do not need to file taxes..

But, now I am really anxious back for my 2007 taxes because I have nothing on my hand related to my 2007. If an interview officer asks for 2007 taxes, I will not be able to show anything . So what should I do ? Please give some input thanks a lot..

Try to get a letter from the IRS whereby it states that no monies are due and payable to the IRS for the last 3 years.-

Please help because I started to scare a lot after reading some posts..

My accountant told me that i did not need to file for 2007 because I was not working and I was a full time student .. But probably he did not know that so i do not know what to do ?

Do you guys think my citizenship application might be in danger ? What should I do ? When I called IRS last year, they also told me that since i did not work , i do not have to file but probably they did not also know that i am a green card holder...

Please give some advice

Most needs for tax return information can be met with a computer print-out of your return information called a "transcript". A transcript may be an acceptable substitute for an exact copy of a return by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and lending agencies for student loans and mortgages. A "tax return transcript" will show most line items contained on the return as it was originally filed. If you need a statement of your tax account which shows changes that you or the IRS made after the original return was filed, however, you must request a "tax account transcript". Both transcripts are generally available for the current and past three years and are provided free of charge. The period in which you will receive the transcript varies from within ten to thirty business days from the time the IRS receives your request for the tax return or tax account transcript.

http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc156.html

You can obtain a transcript by calling 800–829–1040 and following the prompts in the recorded message or by completing and mailing Form 4506-T (PDF), Request for Transcript of Tax Return, to the address listed in the instructions. Forms can be downloaded at www.irs.gov or ordered by calling 800–829–3676. Transcripts may also be mailed to a third party if you specify this on Form 4506-T, however, you must sign and date the form giving your consent for the disclosure.

I will call the 800 and ask for my tax transcripts .. But , the funny thing is nobody sent me any letter from IRS that I should file taxes for 2007 or i forgot to file my taxes for 2007..

Should I assume I am in good shape or worry ?

I would think you are in good shape. But let's get it in writing: call the IRS :)

Okay correct me if I am wrong - but even if one has no income (zero dollars) one can still file an EZ 1040 application right? If so - I would suggest you do that so it "shows" you have nothing to hide.

If not, call the IRS and ask them to send you a letter stating that due to your lack of income you do not need to file. If that is not possible, have them send you a letter explaining what the income cutoffs are for filing. You can take that to your interview.

The other pressing issue is your proof of residency in the US during 2007. Most IOs look at taxes as a sign of residency - especially if the company and office locations are in the US. So, if you weren't working, what were you doing in 2007? For example, if you attended school I would prepare copies of transcripts.

Yes, i was going to college full time in 2007. That's why i did not work at all ..

Then you are fine. Just get something in writing that you do not need to file due to lack of income and also have your transcript ready. Nothing to worry about here...

Still not too late.

Just file a your 2007 tax now. It's not too late and there is no penalty (if you don't owe any taxes).

Just file your 2007 tax return with zero income and maybe add few dollars for interest income. If you have interest income you have to report it.

If you live in NYS, you actually get some money back from the government even if you have no income.

After few weeks(about 3-4 weeks), call IRS to get your 2007 tax transcript.
