180 day rule for the use of EAD

Hi all,

Does the 180 day rule of pending I-485 for change of jobs also apply to the use of EAD. Does the EAD holder have to wait for 180 days to start his/her own side business (while keeping the job).

Also, does the I-140 have to be approved in order to use the EAD if I-140 and I-485 are applied for concurrently.

Thanks for replying to my query. Got another question if you may answer it please.

If I use EAD, and I-485 or I-140 is denied, do I have any options or leaving the country is a must.

At what point does the CIS look at tax returns...at I-140 or I-485 stage or at the naturalization stage and for how many past years?

Is there an interview required for employment based adjustment of status?

Thanks for your thoughtful replies. Got one more question. If someone starts using the EAD for sidejobs/own business etc but continues to work for the sponsoring employer and has time left on H1-B, does he/she need to tell the company (I guess by using Form I-9) the he/she is working on EAD now and not on H1-B or just keep on working on H1-B just in case I-140 is not approved and he/she has to leave the sidejob.
