1099 and Interview

My case was transferred from Nebraska to a Local office in February. I may be scheduled for an interview in the Local office any time. I got laid off earlier so I lost my original employment-based sponsor. I found a similar IT job in the meantime, but my employer wanted me to work on 1099 (independent contractor) till the end of this year - due to the budget issues in 2002. They are going to switch me to an employee status on January 1.
What are my options if I got an interview soon? I can always produce a letter of intent from my employer that they are going to employ me as a W-2 employee when my Green Card has been approved. An INS officer is bound to ask me during an interview if I work anywhere, then I will have to say that I am presently working there on 1099. Any idea what might happen then?
Any advice is appreciated.

As long as you can produce a letter ....

from your new employer for future FULL-TIME job offer stating job title, job desc, salary, and job location, you should be fine.

Working on 1099 until 485 approval should be ok, but you employer should be ready to hire you file time upon I-485 approval.

I wish you best of luck.
