10 months since reciept, still no EAD

Hello All,

It has been almost 10 months since my I-485 Reciept Date, and I still have not got my EAD Number by mail. I have received a mail from INS for fingerprinting last week though.

My questions are:

1. Is it normal to take so long for EAD number to arrive ?
2. Can I change jobs by getting a temprary EAD number from the INS Local Office ?

Hope that you applied for EAD separately....The current processing date in CSC is Jan04.

Indian1973 you separately need to apply for an Employment Authorization (form I-131) to work and a travel document (form I-765) for Advance Parole if you want to travel outside the US.

You are still ok at the moment if your H1 or L1 is still valid.

I have I-765 and I-485 Reciept, but I do not have any I-131 Reciept.

Although my H1 is still valid and my 6.5 years is not yet over, I am planning to change jobs with my EAD number.

Is it ok to change jobs ?

I plan to go to the local INS office tommorow morning to get my temporary EAD Number.

Dude!!
You will be going to the INS office to get an iEAD(Interim EAD) and not a number. The I-765 receipt that you have will have a receipt# on it and this is your so called "EAD number". When you get an iEAD from the INS local office, the iEAD card will have your photo, finger print and the same exact receipt# that you have on your I-765 receipt.

Browse the EAD and AC-21 forum to learn some of the basic stuff before you decide to switch jobs
