Dear fellow MDs,

I have a question. I'm on a J1 negotiating a waiver position for 2007. My employer has stated that although I will be signing a single contract, a part of my salary will be coming from the physicians' group and a part from the medical school. It is a faculty position based at a CHC. Since this will entail 2 paychecks and essentially 2 W2s, would I require 2 H1Bs or would only 1 suffice.

I would think so (this is how it typically works with the folks who have a VA appointment for 5/8th and a university appointment for 3/8th).

Unless you can negotiate a deal where the medschool hires you from the CHC as contractor and pays your salary+overhead to the CHC which loops it through onto your paycheck.
 
Thanks, Hadron, I'll ask a lawyer too.

I think they should be flexible to route it all through one paycheck.
