Any advantages to using an attorney to file for Citizenship?

Let me add my 2 cents here regarding the lawyer. I filled in N-400 myself and handled all other steps in the process myself until my application got stuck in Name Check. I consulted a lawyer at that time (just paid the one-hour consultation fee). The lawyer cannot help with expediting name...

F-1 student visa and illegal employment

Sarah: I understand your stringent need for survival and desire to remain in this country. However, it is best to try to stay as legal as possible because it can haunt you later. You have already made some mistakes, however try to avoid them in the future. A few things to keep in mind...

3 month after FP, no IL rec'd

9 months after FP I had my FP taken in July 2006 and my case is still pending. I've taken an Infopass in January and was told they are doing "security check". When I asked whether this means "name check", I was told it means anything: name, background check etc. And that there is no time line...

Stuck in name check with new rules after May '06

What is FOIPA? I have seen on this thread multiple references to FOIPA. What exactly is FOIPA and what it can do for people in our situation? My info is as follows: Applied: June 27, 2006 FP Date: July 14, 2006 Detroit Waiting for IL. My wife applied the same time as I did and she...

Longer processing time for male than that of female applicant

Actually there have been multiple posts regarding precisely the same situation, myself included. The conventional wisdom is that the delay is due to the FBI name check, which could be indeed the case. However, this does not explain completely why only male applicants find themselves in this...

    N-400 and Selective Service

Sorry, what is DO? Anyway, the receipt date is June 27, and the center is Detroit. I think it is the name check as well, but since I am seeing that this situation applies mostly to husbands and not their wives (at least based on the posts in this forum), selective service came to mind (I...

    N-400 and Selective Service

I am attempting a speculation here and I was wondering if any of you guys would refute it. I was fingerprinted on July 7th or so, same time as my wife. I am still waiting for my interview notice, whereas my wife has received it one month ago. I also noticed multiple posts when guys mentioned the...

    discrepancy in N400 processing

lotechguy: Thank you for your reply. If the name check is the bottleneck, then I may be in for a long wait. That would be strange though, given I have no FBI record whatsoever and my name is really not common at all.

    discrepancy in N400 processing

Hello: I have submitted the N-400 application on June 27, same as my spouse. We were both scheduled for fingerprinting on July 14th. However, she received the Interview Date notice three weeks ago, whereas I have not received it yet. Her case status disappeared from CIS website after...

    frequent short trips abroad

Dear experts: I am working on filling my N400 form and I am struggling a bit with the section requesting to document all trips longer than 24 hours outside the US taken during the past 5 years. My brother lives in Canada and I take frequent 2-3 days trips there. The problem I have is I do not...

    Did anyone have this problem?

I have a question about this: is the company itself responsible for getting the security clearance or the prospective employee's responsibility? In other words, if one wants to get security clearance on his/her own way ahead of time, is this possible? Thanks.

    OR question

bostondoctor, You should ask your advisor to give you retroactive letters from the Journal(s) for which you reviewed, asking you to review the articles. It would be helpful if he/she can include buzzwords such as "Based on your reputation, you are qualified to review .... etc.". This helps a lot.

    OR question

I too believe that your case is very strong. It is normal up to a certain degree for the attorney to be somehow cautious, but you would also want your attorney to be enthusiastic about your chances and most of all enthusiastic about preparing an adequate petition for INS. I do not know whether...

Even though I do not know the meaning of ISO standardization in relation to Technical Reports, I think you look good for an OR. I don't think NIW is a goo doption for you.

    No Much Help from attorney-NIW

I disagree with Zaye's assertion that the support letters should be drafted by the attorney. This in fact constitutes fraud, as the letters should be drafted by the person giving the endorsement. Yes, the lawyer should provide a template and specific guidelines on the content of the letter, but...
