I believe once you are on EAD your H1b is no longer valid and you have to renew your EAD. Not a legal advice, you may want to check with your lawyer.

thank you guys I belive there should be no problem to travel on H1 as my RD is 04/2002 and I am not expecting it to get approved any time soon. My lawyer's a jerk, he asked me to call LOCAL INS and when I called they are not ready to listen anything but asked me to get AP whatever the case...
