Thanks cafe,
When I say renounced UK citizenship, I don't plan on burning my UK passport. I thought part of becoming a US citizen was that you had to travel the world as a US Citizen, and put US above all others.
So is it legal to travel with 2 passports then? And then use your favorite one at...
I'm waiting for my oath ceremony, and was planning on heading back to my native (but renounced) UK to see my family. I don't want to wait for a passport though.
Can I fly to the UK on my UK passport, and use whatever paperwork I get at the oath ceremony to re-enter the US? Or am I supposed to...
When I load up the forums homepage, I get a status bar message in the footer of Firefox which says something like:
"waiting for http : // facef*****girl.com/"
I added the * for obvious reasons and put some spaces in. I'm not sure if this means my browser is hacked, or if there is some...
This going to the mailbox every day hoping that I'll get a notification is killing me. Still waiting since 5/14. About to go nuts, as I daren't go out of the country without my oath ceremony done.
The IRS1722 is dead. Long live the 4506T!
It took me a long time on hold with the IRS in 2013 to figure this out. And you can do everything on line. Pity I didn't know that before I started out. There's a feedback form to allow people to comment on the "reduction of paperwork in government...
I live in Texas. It says on 2013-05-14 (aka May 14th this year) I was scheduled for invitation to the oath ceremony. Going to the mailbox every day leaves me frustrated, hungover, and annoyed.
How on earth do I figure out when my oath ceremony will be?
I called up and they said "I'm in...
Good point. I didn't show it as he never asked. I was nervous.
I had already sent the installation agreement with the N400, so I assumed (maybe this was my mistake) that he'd seen it. I also had two large folders of documentation that I'd been asked to bring, and he never asked to see any of...
I understand this principle, but this was not my experience in April 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. I was told to pay my back taxes despite having an installment agreement in place and having paid on time.
Thanks Jacko - I had an agreement and had been diligently paying the installments, and had proof of both. The interviewer just didn't ask for either (I'd sent in the installation agreement with my N400 too)
Thanks for you compassion Janette! :p It's tempting to say that taking on unsecured credit card debt would make me a true American! (joking)
Interestingly, the interviewer told me of another person he interviewed who owed $1.5m in back taxes due to an accounting error, and that the candidate...
I had an installation agreement at the time of sending the N400.
I sent a copy with the form.
I had the installation agreement at the time of the interview.
But the officer didn't even ask to see it, he just whistled and said that I needed to take care of it. From the IRS perspective, I...
I just went to my interview and thought I'd share this.
I owe some back taxes, and I explained this on my N400. I included a letter of explanation
Before my interview, I got a letter saying "bring the status of your accounts with the IRS" which I did.
When I got to the interview, the...
Useful iPhone App for prepping for test
The immigration test is quite easy. You can practice in the waiting room with this app:

I did. It was pretty handy.
